🌍✈️ Baltra: First Step into the Galápagos
I am beginning a series about the most visited sites in the Galápagos—places I explore year after year.
Each island offers something unique 🐢🌋, shaped by wildlife, scenery, and geology.
This time, it’s Baltra’s turn, one of the main entrances to the archipelago.
From the air, Baltra looks flat and dry ☀️ during the dry season, but turns greener 🌿 in the rainy months.
Here you can find land iguanas 🦎, Darwin’s finches 🐦, lava lizards, sea lions 🦭, turtles 🐢, and many seabirds.
Underwater, marine life is always present 🌊🐠. Almost every arrival feels special, with a natural “welcome committee.”
Most visitors see only the airport and main roads, leading to cruise piers or ferries to Santa Cruz 🚤.
Along the way, traces of World War II history remain visible 🕊️.
Today, Baltra represents a great conservation success story, especially for its land iguanas 💚
